Peek has been commissioned by the Dutch Ministry of Public Works to build a traffic signalling system on and around the Hellegatsplein junction on the basis of a new innovative roadside station and freely programmable signallers with LED technology.

The traffic signalling system measures the traffic flows, weather and bridge positions, and uses this to inform the road user about the current traffic situation. This is done by means of graphs, texts and flashing lights on LED signallers above and next to the road.
Use of a universal architecture, based on high quality technology and open standards, gives an innovative dynamic traffic system that can be used for local traffic control and can also be connected to the national traffic signalling system.

The operator in the control room by one the bridges can take the necessary traffic measures in the event of:

  • Opening a bridge;
  • Dangerous wind speeds;
  • A slippery road surface;
  • Traffic queues;
  • Work in progress.

The new dynamic traffic system now also makes it possible for the operator to take a combination of measures, such as speed signalling during calamities together with wind speed warning and any explanations for the delay with the freely programmable signallers.

Peek's new traffic signalling system makes an important contribution to the traffic safety of the road user.
