TrafficBox

The TrafficBox is Peek's reply to the increasing market demand for a more intelligent, universal, compact and cost-effective roadside system which fulfills the requirements for open industrial standards.

The TrafficBox can be accessed via TCP/IP and offers all possibilities required of a modern roadside system. Due to its processor power the TrafficBox is the ideal platform to implement local traffic management applications.

The TrafficBox is a universal roadside platform on which already various traffic functions are implemented, such as:

  • Motorway Traffic Management (MTM) functionality;
  • Automatic Incident Detection;
  • Slow or stopped vehicle detection;
  • Traffic data retrieval for monitoring;
  • Control and monitoring of traffic signaling devices such as LED matrix signs;
  • Control and monitoring of rotation panels (prismatic), variable message signs, video detector equipment and barriers.

Due to the universal character of the system various applications can be added for interrogation and control of sensors, actuators, and objects such as weather systems, bridges and tunnels.

The roadside system design is based on the principle of distributed intelligence. It is capable of interrogate intelligent detectors and control intelligent actuators via serial bus structures using standard open industrial protocols such as Profibus.

All in accordance with the architecture for traffic control (AVB).

The TrafficBox is equipped with a powerful processor platform on which applications can function locally, where local connections to other (roadside) system are possible. In this way TrafficBoxes still function locally when communication with the central system drops.
