Mobility is dynamic by nature. There is an enormous pressure to solve the ever increasing congestion problems while lowering the use of fossil fuels and improving safety. This pressure cooker is an ideal environment for innovation. In traffic, however, innovation has to be embedded in a landscape built from expensive existing infrastructure, existing control solutions and slowly changing laws and regulations. Solutions for traffic problems involve a multitude of actors (think only of the end-users of the solutions, the travellers). The major solutions for the 21st century need enormous investments in infrastructure, individual vehicles and laws and regulations. It is impossible to achieve this on national level. Moreover, it is impossible for a single company to achieve a significant breakthrough. Innovation has become an international, cooperative effort. Peek Traffic is deeply involved in the international research that will determine the shape of future traffic and transport systems.
