Sensor technologyAccurate and cost-effective sensors are essential for high quality traffic control. Peek seeks to improve the accuracy and cost-effectiveness of traffic sensors. An example is the inductive fingerprinting technology that uses proven inductive loop technology to obtain accurate travel time estimates, not only for use on motorways but also on urban roads. A novel algorithm was developed that can use various sizes of single loops in an urban environment. The inductive profile of two loops are compared and matched in a novel way. Tests have shown that the algorithm can achieve matching rates close to 100% when the loops used for matching are identical and in a similar location. Matching rates of 80% were achieved with different loop types (length and width) were used. |
